Carlton Landing- The Lot on Water Street
Years.
That's right, it took me years of looking, pursuing, almost booking, before I finally took my first trip to Carlton Landing.
It isn't a far drive from our house when you think of how far we normally drive for a vacation. But it is also a commitment. Plus, how fun can a town in Oklahoma be? Sorry Okalahoma! When I was a child, I took SO MANY TRIPS to OKALAHOMA to visit my relatives. Good memories, great people, but it wasn't exciting. It isn't like we are visiting the ocean or the mountains. So, it kept being put off for other adventures.
We didn't even go during their busy season! Acutally, we haven't even been in their busy season. We went last November, for a quick family getaway. Think lake views, charming homes, warm pizza, hiking, snuggling up on a patio with a blanket reading, kind of getaway. It was so relaxing.
The neighborhood actually reminds us a lot of our current neighborhood. So, you might say we were already destined to feel at home. You don't have to rush, you can walk around to your destination, and the kids get the freedom they desire as they get older. However, here you get a lake! We might have a "lake" in our neighborhood, but it is more like a pond that you can fish out of, swim in, or go kayaking. But this is a real lake, like a take the boat out, cruise around and chill real lake!
Check out this charming area! It quickly became my favorite area because of how close it was to all the action!
And can't you just imagine yourself here in the fall, with your coffee, reading a great book by the fire? Trust me, we took advantage of this setup!
James and I left feeling like this was the next step for us. We have wanted to invest in real estate for a while. But, this felt like something that we would immensely enjoy as a family, it was an easy weekend destination, and we could not wait to find a place to share with our friends and family.
Once we arrived back at home, we discussed it quite a bit and decided we were ready to go back and take a look at all the houses that were available. Okay, not all the houses because the vast majority are WAY out of our price range. But, we wanted to go see what was available, within our price range, and get to know the different parks and neighborhoods a bit better. I was definitely drawn to the area close to the action. James liked anywhere that had a good view. But, nothing really struck us as the right fit for us. They needed too much work, or were not in the ideal location, or just had an awkward layout. We did see this three-story home that was being built on Water street, and loved the location, the patios, and the third-story bunk room. But it was out of our price range!
We decided we would wait and see what else would come available. This was off-season after all.
Not even a week or two later a lot became available, in a great location, within on price budget. It seemed too good to be true. There was nothing wonky with the lot; it wasn't going to cost extra to build on it or anything because it was a flat elevation. The only "downside" might be that it was a skinny lot and we would have to build on it right away.
That's okay, we didn't want a giant house anyway, we loved that third story balcony, which we could only do if we had a small first and second story. Plus, we were in a hurry to get the process going. So, just a few months later. We are now the proud owners of our own lot in Carlton Landing on Water Street.
We cannot wait to take you on our adventure of building a lake house in a different state!
